In 2018, a collective of students and faculty in Western Washington University’s Department of Art & Art History petitioned against the planned closure of the Viking Union Gallery, the only professional student-run gallery on campus. Over a thousand petition signatures later, they succeeded.

On Monday, April 14, Western Washington University’s Facilities Development & Operations (FDO) implemented an emergency interim recycling plan following an assessment of the student-run Recycle Center’s six vehicles, five of which were deemed inoperable. Western’s existing trash and compost provider, Sanitary Service Company (SSC), will now provide recycling services.
In a Feb. 15 “Dear Colleague” letter, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) directed preschool, elementary, secondary and postsecondary educational institutions, as well as state educational agencies across the country to comply with existing civil rights law and the Supreme Court’s 2023 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (SFFA). The decision deemed racial preferences in college admissions to be unlawful.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the nine Washington State Supreme Court justices will visit Western Washington University to hold a Q&A session from 9-11 a.m. in the Wilson Library Reading Room. On Thursday, Feb. 20, the court will hear two cases from 9-11 a.m. in the Wilson Library Reading Room. Both events will be open to the public.
“Creating Change,” a documentary directed by Dina Amin and produced by Western Washington University professors Brian J. Bowe and Bidisha Biswas, highlights the experiences of two young Palestinian women who participated in media literacy workshops in Jerusalem and Ramallah during the summer of 2023.
