BRIEF: WWU expands naloxone accessibility

Naloxone is now available at several new locations across Western Washington University, according to an email sent from the Vice President of Student Affairs office. The medication, often referred to by the brand name Narcan, works to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses. While it can be administered through injection or as a nasal spray, WWU only holds the latter form.

Western professor’s art balances conflicting perspectives at the Western Gallery

Walking into the Western Gallery this quarter, visitors will quickly lock eyes with “My Life as a Suburban Ind’n”, a painting by John Feodorov that offers a glimpse into his childhood in the Los Angeles suburbs, as well as the complexities of being Indigenous in the modern day. As he matured, Feodorov created a balance between the two sides of his upbringing. And in that balance, he was able to find inspiration for his work.

The Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office determined that they could not prosecute the Dean of Libraries John Danneker who was arrested on Monday, Oct. 14, for “communication with a minor for immoral purposes.”

Associated Students Charter and Constitution updated for the first time in 14 years

In February, a new Western Washington University Associated Students Charter was signed for the first time since 2010. The charter was signed by Western President Sabah Randhawa, Associated Students President Keara Ryan and Senate President Gabe Wong, and enabled a change in the AS Constitution, which was approved last spring and entered into effect at the beginning of the school year.

A separate student death in 24-hour period shocks Western campus

The Bellingham community was stunned by the news of a student death in the Alma Clark dorms, following a devastating announcement earlier the same morning that a student had died from a fall at the Nash dorms. Given the concern that had stemmed from two deaths within such a short period of time, the university was quick to assure that there was no perceived threat to the campus community.

A Western Washington University student died from a fall off of the Nash Hall dorms on the evening of Oct. 9, according to a statement released by the university the following morning.The incident is still under investigation by law enforcement; however, there is no suspicion of foul play.
