Western alumna Barb Demorest is a mother and a wife to Western’s Senior Systems Analyst, Denny Demorest. She is also a survivor from a battle that will claim the lives of approximately 40,610 women in the year 2017 alone, according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The hum of tattoo guns can be heard echoing in shops throughout Bellingham this month, as local artists commit to giving back to those who lost their breasts to cancer. Many shops are offering discounted rates for survivors, for the entire month of October, in honor of breast cancer awareness.

Federal student aid faces 2018 cuts

The U.S. Department of Education 2018 budget plan, released this spring, proposes to eliminate or reduce funding for more than 30 programs, including a few that are crucial resources for some Western students paying tuition. The proposed budget is still awaiting approval from Congress.
