Viking Voices showcases student opinions on different issues by asking them different questions. This week we asked students: “How would you feel knowing a fellow Western student was
practicing concealed carry of a sidearm?”
Grayson Hagopian, freshman business and marketing major
“I wouldn’t necessarily feel more or less safe, but it would be a little unnerving to know that someone does in fact have a weapon on them on campus.”
Sally Wheldon, junior environmental studies major
"I would feel uncomfortable and a little unsure about being on campus, because you never know what someone’s going through and what their intentions are when they have a gun.”
Taylor Hergert, senior history major
“I’d feel kind of uncomfortable just because of the situations we’ve had in the past few years of shootings on campus, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable knowing that.”
Spencer Henderson, junior operations management major
“I wouldn’t feel safe. I feel like it would encourage myself and maybe others to contemplate doing the same just because of a general fear. I think that a university should be a safe environment."
