Looking to rebound from a 7-10 record in league play last season, the Vikings come into the 2022-2023 season with the goal of reclaiming their spot at the top of the Great Northwestern Athletic Conference (GNAC).
The Western Washington University women's soccer team improved its win streak to six games in a row (10-1-3) after its 3-0 victory against Montana State University Billings on Saturday, Oct. 15. This match was the last of four consecutive games played on the road. With an undefeated record in conference play (9-0-1), the Vikings are first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings. The team is also ranked seventh in Division II NCAA organizations across the nation.
Western men’s rowing is back on the water and looking to compete after medaling at the American Collegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta in May. The club brought both gold and bronze medals back to Bellingham in the spring. Being the first national placements in club history, it was a major triumph and motivator for the Western men’s crew team. After a summer off, the club hopes their victories last spring will propel their performance forward this season.

A few thousand people welcomed the return of the summer Downtown Sounds concerts as 1980s music from the band Nite Wave played across downtown Bellingham. The concert on Wednesday, July 6, was the first of five concerts happening downtown throughout July and August put on by the Downtown Partnership. They are among a few different free concert events planned this summer throughout the city.

Rocket League Club President, fourth-year Kanyen Sherwood, was interested in the Western Washington University club even before he arrived on campus. “I have an embarrassing amount of hours into this game,” Sherwood said. “When I committed to going to Western, the first thing I did was type into google ‘WWU Rocket League.’”

Is it beneficial to attend a community college first before going to a four-year university or is being recruited by a university right out of high school better? Each coach and player at different levels will tell you the college recruitment process differs. Coaches look for specific characteristics in a prospective recruit: grades, personality, skill; and athletes look for specific things the college has to offer them: academics, successes of the athletic programs, athletic aid.

As a Ukrainian-American who was born in Kyiv and came to the United States when I was 1 year old, I have felt helpless. These last few months, I’ve seen the country I was born in and still want to revisit being demolished. And there’s nothing I can do except write this article.

Western Washington University’s Judo Club isn’t like other sports clubs. It has a no experience required policy and they welcome newcomers with open arms.
Vikings on Wheels is a club wheelchair basketball team that competes in the Wade King Student Recreation Center every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m.
