Since the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, the Underground Coffeehouse has not returned to serving coffee. Located on the third floor of the Viking Union at Western Washington University, the coffeehouse sat locked and unused for the better half of this year, before opening up for spring quarter.

The Washington Department of Ecology filed a water adjudication rights lawsuit on May 1. The lawsuit concerns Water Resource Inventory Area 1, which includes the Nooksack River basin and several adjoining smaller watersheds, such as the coastal drainages of the Dakota and California Creeks and Lake Whatcom. Thousands of people in Whatcom County will be affected.

Following a hernia which required surgery in January 2024, Drew Weber returned with a breakthrough performance at May 4's Portland Twilight competition. At the meet, Weber almost broke Western Washington University’s men’s 800-meter record with a time of 1 minute, 49.88 seconds which, at the time, was the 14th best in the nation. The university record is 1:49.34, which is a time that Weber set himself in his 2023 season.
